Liquid Containment

Liquid Primary Containment Applications

These pregnant solution ponds at a heap leach mine contain cyanideWater containment is the most common application for geomembranes. This includes decorative ponds, canals, reservoirs, lakes, and other containment types. But primary liquid containment can also include the containment of other liquids such as brine solutions, treated water, chemicals, and other liquids.

Selecting a geomembrane for primary containment requires that we look at the long term chemical compatibility. For water containment the compatibility is fairly simple. There are tests to determine if the geomembrane will work with potable water and tests that see if the liner will harm fish. Enviro Liner 6000 is an example of liner that is both certified for potable water and has been fish tested. More effort is needed when the liner needs to contain a particular chemical for a long period of time. When selecting a liner for the long term primary containment of a chemical you need to contact Layfield for help with that selection.
