The use of geomembranes and covers in a water utility starts with dam facing liners for water reservoirs, then moves to raw water storage ponds, and then on to drinking water treatment plants, covered drinking water storage ponds, clear wells and underground water reservoirs. Geosynthetics are a growing use in storm water applications such as detention and retention ponds, reinforced run-off channels, and in green roofs and storm water management systems. In waste water treatment we line concrete tanks and ponds for lagoon treatment and waste water storage, add baffle curtains and insulated floating covers to improve treatment, and cover ponds to collect biogas for alternative energy projects.
