Field Quality Assurance Programs

As a construction company in the geosynthetics industry Layfield has been subject to stringent quality standards for many years. Our first written quality assurance programs were put in place in 1986 in Canada (Layfield Plastics 1978 Ltd) and 1988 in the US (CW Neal Corp). Our field quality assurance manuals have evolved since those dates to the comprehensive manuals now used in the US and Canada.
In the geosynthetics industry it is normal practice to completely track all materials from manufacture to final inspection; qualify technicians and welding equipment each day before welding and every 4 hours after that; and to test each and every seam made in the field. We are commonly subject to third party QC inspection on job sites and are used to operating at a quality level significantly higher than any other trade on a job site.
In 1998 the Edmonton location of Layfield Geosynthetics and Industrial Fabrics Ltd attained registration of it’s ISO 9002 compliant quality system. This was followed in 2000 by registration of the remaining Layfield Geosynthetics and Industrial Fabrics Ltd locations, the US office of Layfield Plastics Inc, and Layfield Poly Films. In 2001 Layfield Environmental Systems Ltd attained registration of its ISO 9002 compliant quality system.
The ISO 9001:2000 quality standard was adopted in 2003 and a common quality policy manual has been adopted by all Layfield group companies. In 2005 Layfield Geosynthetics and Industrial Fabrics Ltd and Layfield Plastics Inc completed the transition to an ISO 9001:2000 compliant quality management system. Layfield Poly Films Ltd completed the transition to ISO 9001 in 2006. Layfield Environmental Systems Ltd still has an (unregistered) ISO 9002 quality program in place and is preparing for transition to the ISO 9001:2000 standard shortly. Implementation of an ISO 9001 quality management system has begun at Layfield Environmental Systems Corp with completion planned shortly.
